The goal of the OPERA project is to develop optimal solutions for connection of the PLC access networks to the backbone networks. The objective in this area is to create well-adapted backbone solutions (LMDS, satellite, MV PLC, etc.). The main aim is to reach all end users independently of where they are and to develop “ready to sell services” over PLC technology and design or improve low cost user terminals.

The 200 Mbps chipset by DS2 has recently been accepted as the chipset standard for the project.
The OPERA project was initially set up and funded by 36 European leading companies and now has extra funding by the European Commission.
